EUCAST MIC testing services using broth microdilution panels calibrated to the ISO standard.

Reference broth microdilution MICs from EUCAST Development Laboratory

The EUCAST Development Laboratory in Växjö, Sweden offers to determine minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) using broth microdilution according to the ISO standard 20776-1 (2019) to offer colleagues high quality MIC determination. The service is primarily organised to provide MIC values of an extensive range of agents for isolates with extensive antimicrobial resistance.

The cost per isolate is calculated to cover costs for materials and laboratory work only. We will also accept larger series of isolates for determination of MICs as part of projects, with a lower cost for each isolate than for single isolates. This is when the number of isolates is ≥10. For projects, the EDL must be contacted and the cost agreed in advance.

We do not provide a service for MICs of single agents as a full panel of agents is tested on all isolates. The concentration ranges were chosen to include the median concentration of relevant wild type distributions and at least two dilutions above the EUCAST breakpoint. The aim is to provide a high degree of accuracy with panels that are also used for EUCAST development work. Each antimicrobial concentration series is extensively quality controlled.

The panels currently available will vary over time, but panels relevant for Staphylococci, Streptococci, Enterococci, Haemophilus, Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas and many more species are always available. Contact the EUCAST Development Laboratory via the EUCAST subject related contact form. Or email erika.matuschek@eucast.org or gunnar.kahlmeter@eucast.org at the EDL for more information.
