EUCAST is sad to announce that Professor Dik Mevius passed away on November 21st at the age of 68. Dik was an international expert on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in animals and one of the founders of VetCAST and the ESCMID study group for Veterinary Microbiology (ESGVM). He devoted many years of his life to fighting AMR in the animal sector in the Netherlands, Europe and beyond. Dik was closely involved in setting up a European monitoring system on AMR, which was eventually included in European legislation. Dik explicitly sought collaboration with the human health sector to address AMR from a One Health perspective. Next to an excellent scientist, Dik was a straight-forward and loyal person who enjoyed sharing his knowledge and opinion. We have lost a great colleague and a forerunner in the field of AMR and One Health.
